open/extract the downloaded refspoof-0.8beta.zip with winzip (or something different .. think winxp supports .zip on its own though not 100% sure)
drag the extracted .xpi file in a firefox window .. install dialog should appear :)Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; de; rv:126.96.36.199) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/188.8.131.52

@david .. did you try it with a new profile .. if not please read through the faq.
have no clue why it didnt work from your description atleast i know that you might have used win nt5 - where other extensionsions installed as there might be a namespace clash. please read also through the integrated help. the sentences that "The only way I can get it to work is if I put the url and ref are the same. I can only spoff my url on my site." are not all that clear imho. did you use the gui or entered the spoof uri directly into the address bar?Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; de; rv:188.8.131.52) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/184.108.40.206

Hello, I am french like BoyD, new on Firefox and I really don t understand where to install this new beta version after extracting it from Winrar. You say 'drag the extracted .xpi file in a firefox window': what is a firefox window? do we have to extract the zip files in C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox, or in some underfiles from Mozilla like Extensions, Components, etc?

Hi, there exists a bug (or enhancement) to implement the posibility to spoof the referer (like your toolbar) : http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55477 -- great ideas here ..

FYI, it is referrer and not referer!

I think that this project, uabar, and the replay function of LiveHTTPheaders have similar goals, and should cooperate to create a nice interface for modifying the http headers, possibly for a single request or for every request while browsing.

Works great in firebird.
As I'm sure you know, the spoof.rdf file should probably go into the profile folder.
var gIOService = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/network/io-service;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIIOService);
var profile = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/profile/manager;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIProfileInternal);
var gProfileDirURL = gIOService.newFileURI(profile.getProfileDir(profile.currentProfile));
// Complete file notation ("file://" + gProfileDirURL.path + "spoof.rdf")

A suggestion/request if I may:
A great feature would to be able to view/hide the bar at will. Similar to prefbar's F8 (also available in the view menu): http://prefbar.mozdev.org/source.html
This would help keep things clean, and give the bar viable use when needed, rather than always being there (when not needed). -- is possible in new view-toolbar menu

I had the same problem with 0.6.0 - the file doesn;t actually appear to exist. 0.5.0 seems to install and work o.k on 1.0PR though, even though the upgrade originally considered refspoof to be 'incompatible'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10

Shutdown Firefox, open prefs.js in your user profile, find the line user_pref("refspoof.spooffile", "file:///path/spoof.rdf"); and adjust it. Create an empty file at that location, name it spoof.rdf. Save prefs.js and start firefox, add a spoofmark and it should write it to that file (where you can delete it then later too).
v0.5.0 works fine for Me on FF 0.10Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10
start of refspoof > 0.6

Any chance on getting an update to 1.0PR?
I looked at the source and it looks like they are adding support for my spoof:// URL handler.
For more info on spoof:// check the forums at http://www.pr0nbar0n.com

the install.rdf thing is a firefox extension install routine .. it would need an install script .. i already looked at it though didnt come up with a nice solution to move the component (pseudoprotocol) parts to the respective folder would be in resource:/// .. i plan to although (could also be done manually) .. and if anyone took a look upon it i'd be happy to hear about ;)
it works with 1.0rc1 although the convert procedure has a bug atm .. is on the to be resolved .. docu will come with the next update .. there is a small readme.txt ..Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; de-de) AppleWebKit/125.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/125.9

Would it be possible to do a (working) installer for 0.5 for firefox 1.0 ? Sorry to have to say it but i really dont like the new 0.6.0 liked the cleanness and simplicity in 0.5.
The refspoof worked fine in 0.9.3 for intance.
guess it wasn't so hard..
called it 0.5.1.. hope now one disagress.. -- added also to the refspoof download section if ever released i think about packaging a version0.5.5 that would be the old codebase with the one addition that it would store the rdf file in the profile and be packaged for firefox/mozillaMozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110 Firefox/1.0

I use Mac OS9.2.2 and have installed Mozilla1.2. I have tried all previous versions of Mozilla and respoof. I get a spoof bar fine but I have never been able to save anything using the spoofmark. All of them disappear when I restart Mozilla.
I was hoping that refspoof_0_6_0.xpi might resolve this, but when I try to install it, I get this message: "Install script not found."Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030621 Unofficial/1.3.1

Refspoof doesn't work in conjunction with quicksearching (assign a key to a bookmark and use it to search from the addresbar).
It's the only reason why I'd like to spoof the referrer as the search engine i'm trying to use specifically checks for it.-- describe what you d like to do exactlyMozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
